ASUS Aura concept handset called a fake — by ASUS
Posted by MobiG @ 2:19 pm

We admit, we were a little perplexed to see that ASUS is not “officially” endorsing this super-svelte and touchably beautiful Aura handset. Alas, the Aura was supposedly a design prototype ordered by ASUS from Hungarian design company Egy Studio. The problem is that ASUS claims the entire Aura handset is, well, a complete fake. If so, why are official-looking images of the device posted on Egy Studio’s website? This makes little sense except for ASUS possibly trying to take back information on a leaked prototype that, umm, exists at the website of an alleged design partner of the Taiwanese company. We’d all love to see this killer Aura concept come to life — but maybe it’s just not to be after all.

Verizon’s VCAST TV launch maps, pricing

Yeah, we guess Verizon is technically holding true to its March 1 launch date of its VCAST TV mobile television service, but the coverage leaves… shall we say, something to be desired. A tipster has managed to forward on rather detailed maps of the areas that’ll be blanketed in tiny-screen entertainment as of tomorrow, and the list of launch cities reads something like this: Dallas-Fort Worth, Seattle-Tacoma, Salt Lake City, Spokane, Omaha, Las Vegas-Laughlin, Albuquerque-Santa Fe, Portland, Jacksonville, Minneapolis-St. Paul, Wichita, Kansas City (Missouri), Denver-Boulder, Tucson, and Colorado Springs. As expected, the service will come in three flavors ranging from the $13 / month “Limited” plan to $25 for the “Select” hookup. “Planned future coverage areas” include Los Angeles, Atlanta, New Orleans, New York City, St. Louis, and Norfolk-Richmond, though no exact date is given; it’s possible that Verizon and Qualcomm are hoping to iron out any bugs with smaller markets before jumping to the big dogs.

LG’s new KH1300 has officially landed at South Korean carrier KTF. Sportin’ HSDPA with 3.6 mbps download speed capability, this LG slider comes stocked with the obligatory MP3 player with video capability, 1.3 megapixel cam and the other standard features in this class of handset like QVGA screen and a Samsung-ish flat keypad ala the older Sprint A900M. This looks like a fairly standard handset — except for that sweet HSDPA download speed. Oh yes — we like.
