Happy New Year!
Posted by MobiG @ 6:13 pm

I just wanted to wish a happy new year to all of our readers, staffers, and all the people we work(ed) with on a daily basis throughout the past year and in the year to come! As far as I know it the next big thing on the SlashGear calendar is CES, we’ll be there covering it live too, and then Mac World and there are a ton of other events I am forgetting but those are the most immediate.

Now, to keep this post news worthy I thought you might be interested to know that at least in the UK, and likely in the US too, your “Happy New Year” text messages tonight could be delayed up to a full 6 hours due to the strain on SMS networks. 77% of the people in London that sent text messages last New Year’s found that they arrived late and 23% found that their best wishes were more than 6 hours late.

So, if you like to keep things impersonal (I do) or just don’t like wasting your minutes on a phone call, try using email or instant messaging as data networks likely won’t experience as much of a strain and your message won’t be so late. Like I said Happy New Year, and I can’t wait to see what this one brings.

Nokia N95 8GB for sale on Nokia USA website
Posted by MobiG @ 4:12 pm

Are you ready for the N95 8GB sticker shock? Nokia USA website has the phone listed $779! Don’t make a made dash to buy it until you think through your 3G needs because this model is NOT the US version. It uses the 2100MHz WCDMA band mainly for the European market.

I’ve been testing running the N95 8GB on EDGE and WiFi over the past couple weeks, and must say that I love the larger 2.8-inch screen, the 5-megapixel camera, a-GPS and the additional system memory.

If you can wait a around a little longer, Nokia might release a model just for US consumers utilizing our own 3G band.
