The Compay 6820s, 6720s, and 6520s laptops have all been blessed with Intel’s latest Penryn chips. In order, the laptops are 17, 15.4, and 14.1 inches respectively and are considered business laptops.
Even though they have near-gaming laptop stats with Penryn processors, 4GB RAM, ATI graphics dual-layer DVD burners and 160GB hard drives. They also have Bluetooth, WiFi, and Vista (likely Business or Ultimate). The 6720s and 6820s are both apparently already up on the site with base prices of 600 and 1000 dollars respectively. That leads me to assume that the above configuration is the top of the line for each of the notebooks, which is still pretty impressive. Sure it’s a ball point pen with replaceable ink and all, but the upper half has both a laser pointer and 4GB of flash storage built into it. Probably the nicest part is that it doesn’t look like some cheap knockoff pen, it actually looks like a nice pen. Another plus is that the laser pointer doesn’t require a half dozen of those little hearing aid batteries that cost a small fortune. Instead its simply recharged via USB using the same connection that grants you access to your data. The only problem I could see is that I have a tendency to lose my pens, and losing 256MB or 512MB of data isn’t that big of a deal, but losing 4GB of company records or top secret files could cost you more than your job. But for personal use it wouldn’t be a bad idea, and at 99,000 Korean Won (or about $105) its not too pricey for all that it does. This simple Xbox 360 themed adapter will grant your older or newer HDMI-neglected Xbox 360 the same HD privilege that those with higher end or newer systems already enjoy. Actually, you not only get the HDMI port addition but you get the digital audio output as well.
The adapter will fit in well with the same white as the 360, the same grey plastic as the ends of the 360, and a similar silver strip as the HDD on the 360 (except it says HDMI instead). It’s as simple as plugging this adapter into the AV port on the back of your 360 and then running the overpriced HDMI and digital audio cables to either your HDTV or your receiver. And, it’s made by MadCatz so the chances of it being a crap product are pretty slim. But, there is always a “butâ€; it will cost you $90. Which, depending on how old your Xbox 360 is, might make it worth your while to go ahead and buy a new system since they now have smaller processors that are faster, put out less heat, and require less power, they also have quieter disc drives now, all of which equates to a quieter lower power system and an integrated HDMI port, just something for you to consider. This rumor comes from two different sources; the 4G wireless part is apparently from a preview site from Asus themselves and suggests that a new version of the Eee will have WiMAX. The other part comes from some sources that tipped off a Taiwanese paper that Asus was already manufacturing Eee’s with 8.9-inch screens instead of the 7-inch screens that are currently included.
On the WiMAX side, Google and Sprint do have a partnership going on for the release of their Xohm WiMAX network, although I didn’t realize the launch date for that network was this spring, it is a reasonable launch date since they started on the network earlier this year. Oh, since I didn’t mention it, the rumor is that the new WiMAX enabled Eee would launch stateside in conjunction with the Xohm network, and would probably launch before that in other areas where they already have WiMAX. On the 8.9†LCD format, the word is that the panels only cost $15-20 more and likely wouldn’t affect the overall cost of the device much, but changing up the case and the motherboard and all those other components to fit the larger screen would likely cost more, and that kind of differentiation in your products would likely require separate production lines, so I wouldn’t add much weight to this rumor. But, we could see the unveiling of a new Eee with one or both of these new features at CES next week. ASUS giving next Eee PC WiMAX wireless, 8.9-inch LCD? So P2i has taken the technology the British defense department has been using to repel chemicals and gases from their soldiers uniforms and applied it to cell-phones to repel water from the high tech gadgets. Generally you had to add some size and girth to a mobile device to offer up waterproofing, whether it be from a special water-tight case or due to the seals being built into the actual phone itself.
But that may not be the case anymore, which is good considering phone sizes are shrinking by the day and people are far less likely to pass up the small, slim, chic phone for the bulky one just because it has waterproofing, even if they lived in the rainforest. Essentially the ion mask is just a chemical you can spray on either the hinges and hole or the actual components for maximum waterproofing and then it repels water, and presumably other liquids. Think of it as water sealant like you put on your deck, but for you gadgets. Word is, they are already working on a shoe deal for the technology and they are in talks with 3 major mobile phone manufacturers, so this tech could become commonplace by middle of next year or sooner. I am sure there have been a few times you wished you could just wipe everything and start over, and on a PC where you have the OS software handy, the only other thing you need is time, but doing the same on a phone could mean an expensive paperweight. Well, apparently there is code in the LG Rumors sold by Sprint that allows a person access to the debug menu. Even better yet, from that menu, they can wipe the entire phone, firmware and all. So, if you have one, the days of leaving it in the open or accessible to anyone but you are over, you never know when some jerk is going to walk up and wipe your entire device just because he/she saw a cool trick online. They are working on an update to remove access to the debug menu, but it will come over the air as soon as possible, so taking your phone into your local Sprint store probably won’t do you any good, just be patient. However, if your phone has already been wiped, I’d contact Sprint, they might tell you you’re SOL, but they might have a copy of the firmware handy so they can at least re-install that even if all your other data is lost. Also, if you were considering purchasing one, I’d just recommend you wait, but in the meantime, you should check out the Palm Centro, I’ve had one for some time now, and I love it. So this cheap knockoff, the Qkfone G998, has the Mercedes logo smack dab in the middle of the D-Pad on the front, but Mercedes never asked for such a (dis-) honor. Its not an entirely bad phone though sporting dual-band GSM, dedicated gaming and music controls, and a 2MP camera.
This phone has also adopted the ever popular candy bar form factor that opens up to reveal a second screen and buttons. Which, as I am sure you’ve come to the conclusion of, means there are dual displays with the inner one apparently being the larger of the two. There is also 1GB of internal memory, Bluetooth 2.0, and the Pocket PC OS. The internal screen seems to be where the dedicated music and gaming controls are located, so maybe they were hoping to get in on some of that Nintendo DS action with the built in gaming functionality. No word on price or availability though. Qkfone G998 parodies Mercedes [via coolest-gadgets] Relevant Entries on SlashGear
