SanDisk Ultra Cruzer Titanium Plus Flash Drive Automatically Backs Up Your Files Online

By Andrew Liszewski

USB flash drives have kept the ’sneaker net’ alive and well, but over the years larger capacities and smaller form factors have made losing your data a lot easier. So to combat this problem the SanDisk Ultra Cruzer Titanium Plus flash drive will automatically backup the drive’s contents to a remote server whenever it’s connected to a computer that has internet access. SanDisk has apparently partnered with a company called BeInSync and has built their online backup software into the flash drive which protects your files with 256-bit SSL encryption. You’ll also need to login to the company’s website in order to download your files.

I actually think it’s a pretty good idea, though I have to wonder how long it takes to copy 4GB worth of data to a remote server, given most ISPs have slower upload speeds. According to Crave, the files are actually compressed to save space, but it could still take quite a while. The other downside is that in addition to the Titanium’s .99 price tag, you’ll have to pay a /year fee to backup your data once the included 6-month free trial ends.

Romain Jerome Day & Night Watch Doesn’t Actually Tell Time

Romain Jerome Day & Night Watch (Image courtesy Romain Jerome)
By Andrew Liszewski

While Romain Jerome isn’t exactly the first company that springs to mind when you think of luxury watches, they have made a name for themselves with their Titanic DNA watch that includes salvaged materials from the infamous luxury liner. Apparently the watches sold quite well, and they seemed to have inspired Romain Jerome to stick with the ‘gimmick’ approach when it comes to their designs. How else would you explain the Day & Night watch which doesn’t have any hands on the face, and is only able to tell you if it’s… well… day or night. And it’s not like the company is trying to keep the fact that the watch can’t tell time a secret.

World First – An exceptional timepiece that does not indicate the time!

With no display for the hours, minutes or seconds the Day&Night offers a new way of measuring time, splitting the universe of time into two fundamentally opposing sections: day versus night.

A new interpretation of Time based around two Tourbillons operating sequentially. The Day Tourbillon operates during the day, defining the wearer’s period of activity, and stops after twelve hours, handing over to the Night Tourbillon dedicated to man’s own private sphere.

It kind of reminds me of P.T. Barnum’s ‘Fiji Mermaid’. A genuine fake! Anyways, apparently the Day & Night watch was an extremely limited edition of just 9 pieces that instantly sold out, even though they each had a price tag of 0,000. Sigh.

Jukebox Is A Stylish Addition For The Millionaire iPod Lover
Posted by Gizzie @ 7:05 pm

By Jonathan Kimak

There are probably more iPod docks in the world than there are iPods. So the fact that there is another dock on the market isn’t surprising. Yet this one looks rather nice. The Xi jukebox was created specifically for housing the iPod in a full scale 1950’s inspired jukebox.

The jukebox contains the traditional numbered buttons, some nice speakers(Mk7 Twin channel amplifier, 150w per channel, 2 x tweeter 2 x mid range and 1 x 12 twin cone bass speaker), an LCD display screen for viewing the videos on your iPod and a remote control.

Each jukebox is hand built to order and also features LED lights throughout that can be changed depending on your preferences.

The price? Close to ,000.

Bluetrek Sugar Bluetooth Headset has average function; pretty exterior
Posted by Gizzie @ 7:01 pm

The Bluetrek Sugar Bluetooth Headset is average, at best. But the prism design is interesting and could make a decent accessory for your on-the-go talking needs.

bluetrek-480x360

When it comes to features, this headset doesn’t have anything to write home about. It has a built-in voice alert that can act as a reminder for various tasks like when you need to recharge it or when it is plugged in or disconnected. You can also talk for about seven hours on one charge.

Weighing in at 14 grams, the Bluetrek Sugar is a light, compact device that has a unique design. Sure, it might be a bit clunky to wear, but it’s different, that’s for sure. And sometimes, that’s enough. You can get your very own Sugar for .

Olympus SP-565 UZ has 20x zoom
Posted by Gizzie @ 7:01 pm

sp565uz_d_crop_270x212Olympus appears to be updating their 18x SP-560 UZ by introducing the SP-565 UZ, which possesses a f2.8-4.5 26-520mm-equivalent lens that was formally a part of the SP-570 UZ–their top-of-the-line product.

And at the moment, that appears to be the only difference between the old and new models. The only real benefit of the SP-565 UZ is the lack of the zoom ring. However, it also lacks a hot shoe.

And even though more zooming power has been added to this model, performance is most likely not improved. Which is really a shame, because with such a megazoom, you’d think performance would be better. If you simply must have this camera, you can get your hands on it starting in October and it will retail for 9.99.

Cycling vest shows off your speed
Posted by Gizzie @ 7:01 pm

The Bicycle Speed-Vest is great way to let drivers around you know where you’re at while showcasing your current speed in a bright, illuminated manner. It’s actual pretty practical, though it might draw too much attention to yourself.

vest_ba8vn_17340-338x400

According to talk2myshirt:

The complete system consists of a wheel speed sensor mounted on the bike, the numerical display and the open source computing platform Arduino which is doing the speed calculation and display control. the power comes from a 9 volt battery for the Arduino and one AA battery for the display, both running for 6 hours on one set of battery.

Seems like a pretty cool way to keep others on the road aware of you. Safety first, as they say. And while it could be a good way to see how you’re doing on your cycling speed, you might have some trouble seeing the bright display for yourself.

Electrolux iBasket washes clothes for you
Posted by Gizzie @ 7:01 pm

If you ever get a bit lax on your laundry duties, the Electrolux iBasket should help you out. In fact, it washes your clothes for you.

electroluxibasket-480x307

The iBasket is a laundry hamper that will automatically clean your clothes once enough items have been tossed inside. This is determined by weight. What’s neat is a WiFi link is even built in that allows you to control the frequency of wash cycles. The basket will also send a message to your computer once the cleaning is completed.

Designed by Guopeng Liang at China’s Tongji University as a part of the Electrolux 2008 Design Lab competition, the iBasket is a real innovation and could potentially make the process of washing clothes a less daunting experience.

Limited Edition Stella Artois PSP
Posted by Gizzie @ 6:05 pm

Check out this extremely limited edition Stella Artois PSP. The PSP with Stella branding was created as a special edition for Fosters employees who are brewing Stella Artois for Australia.

stellapsp-480x377

Reportedly only fifty employees were given the limited edition PSP. The Stella Artois PSP has a custom velvet drawstring bag with the Stella logo hand stitched on it, a Stella logo on the back of the PSP itself. The PSP has Stella Artois films and artworks built-into it and a Stella Artois logo on the home screen

This is a pretty interesting marketing idea. Would you consider creating your own branded PSP for your employees?

Control your Roomba with a Wii Balance Board
Posted by Gizzie @ 6:05 pm

How would you like to control your Roomba with your Wii Fit Balance Board? A Japanese man has managed to turn his Wii Balance Board into a controller for his Roomba with just a few steps. Essentially the man used the Bluetooth capabilities of the balance board to link the Roomba and the balance board. Afterwards he’s able to shift his weight from one side of the board to the other to move the Roomba around the room.

While this hack isn’t exactly very functional, it is pretty fun to watch. The man posted a YouTube video of how to he did the hack, and then the Roomba/Wii Balance Board combination in action. Check it out for yourself here:
