Verizon has released their own demo video of Droid a few minutes ago on YouTube…
If you are not wanting to swap over from AT&T or T-Mo to get a Droid, there might be hope. Engadget posted a video today showing a GSM version of the Droid. There was an FCC filing last week that showed the Droid with neccessary bands for 3G, so ya.. maybe guys, maybe. ( Motorola DROID spotted in fine GSM form (video))

Wow. This is going to be a huge blow to stand alone GPS makers and software companies. Google announced Google Maps Navigation today.
Today we’re excited to announce the next step for Google Maps for mobile: Google Maps Navigation (Beta) for Android 2.0 devices.
This new feature comes with everything you’d expect to find in a GPS navigation system, like 3D views, turn-by-turn voice guidance and automatic rerouting. But unlike most navigation systems, Google Maps Navigation was built from the ground up to take advantage of your phone’s Internet connection.
This is initially going to be US only and 1st comes to Android 2.0, but the buzz says that versions for iPhone and Windows Mobile are in the works. I’ll believe that when I see it. Check out a demo video courtesy of Google after the jump…

Well, apparently Verizon heard my plaintive cries, and just finished an event at New York’s Uber-classy W hotel to announce the Droid officially. It appears that someone messed up with the countdown…or they just figured holding the event close to when the countdown ended would be close enough.
Anyway, doesn’t matter, Verizon, I forgive you…kisskiss…Now I have some information from the event. Motorola CEO Sanjay Jha and Verizon Wireless CMO John Stratton were both on stage. First of all there was no sign of the Eris, but it was confirmed that there would be several phones in the Droid family.
It was also confirmed that the Moto Droid will be released on November 6th…just a week away.

That encoded countdown ticking down on the www.droiddoes.com site advertising Verizon’s upcoming release of the Motorola Droid is so cool. What a brilliant marketing gambit. Really clever that they gave no statement of what it was for, or what it was doing, or even what the symbols meant. So freaky and mysterious.
It got a lot of people interested and involved until it was cracked by some clever enthusiasts who confirmed it was absolutely counting down to one AM on October 30th. That REALLY generated some nice buzz and excitement for the release, great marketing job!

The Tire maker Bridgestone is thinking seriously about entering the market of the eBook Readers considering the prototypes shown in this article.
Bridgestone says the prototype has a 10.7-inch-screen, is just 5.8mm thick (Kindle 2: 9.1mm) and can display color pages. The device can be bent to some extent since the circuit board and the electronic paper are flexible.

We’re not sure why the color pink tends to spawn special editions with greater frequency than other colors, but for pink lovers, it works out pretty nicely because you end up getting all sorts of free crap bundled with your phone simply for buying your favorite shade. Take Nokia’s new Illuvial Collection, for example, which has taken the 5530, 6303, and 6700, dressed them up in a very hot shade of pink, and stuffed ‘em in boxes with custom leather cases and straps. The pinkfest doesn’t stop there, though: the phones also include custom themes which are dominated by — you guessed it — pink. It looks like all three models are already available from the UK’s mobiles.co.uk, and other markets throughout Europe should be getting hooked up with at least some of these in the coming weeks.
LG’s GW620 handset may be easy to miss among all the other current Android-based offerings, but it looks like LG is now starting to ramp things up a bit to help it get noticed, with it recently launching (inadvertently, judging from the copy) the official site for phone complete with some fresh new images and promo videos. While there’s expectedly not much in the way of new details, LG’s ads and promo videos (check one after the break) do seem to position the phone squarely in CLIQ territory, with LG even going so far as to dream up a series of mascots (including a “Social Butterfly”) to demo the phone’s social networking capabilities. Head on past the break to see for yourself, and keep an eye on the link below for what should soon be the “official” official website.
Well, there still isn’t a fix for the problem some people seem to be having with receiving text messages on their HTC Hero, but it looks like a workaround has been discovered for another pesky issue that can put a strain on the phone’s battery life. Apparently, the phone has a bit of trouble going back into sleep mode after you send a text, or after you simply turn on the phone and immediately disable the screen without any activity. While some fairly elaborate fixes were tried by some users initially, it looks like the simplest actually works the best: just don’t use the default SMS app to send texts. Instead, you can use a third-party app like ChompSMS or HandCent, which apparently have no problems letting the phone go back to sleep after you send a text. Of course, an official fix would still be the best but, in the meantime, you can hit up the link below for all the necessary details on making the (hopefully temporary) switch.
Hey, HTC — we’re onto you. We know you’re a little upset that the lower-end Droid Eris isn’t getting much attention now that the DROID is all over Verizon’s marketing agenda, but it’s not like we don’t feel your pain. For those interested in spending a full Benjamin less on their next Android handset (on Big Red, anyway), the Droid Eris looks to offer that very solution, and now a few more sneak peeks have shown that a 5 megapixel camera (with a video record mode) is gracing the rear. We’re also told that WiFi will be onboard (right, VZW?), and a bundle of joy will also be thrown in after mail-in rebate. Whatever that means.
