Nokia 6630 – my personal experience :)
Posted by MobiG @ 4:40 pm

[photopress:Nokia_6630_black.jpg,thumb,alignleft] Recently I sold my Moto and after adding some sum I’ve bought a smartphone from Nokia – 6630, which is perfect for me on the price/specifications ratio. As a matter of the fact, I’m bored with the cell phones limitations and purchase of a SMARTphone was question of time. The first impression of the phone was horrible. Menu isn’t very handy, the camera isn’t up-to-date comparing to other similar phones, design and layout of the keys are very uncomfortable, and the key-lock is indispensable. I always had this opinion about the Nokia cell-products and now have confirmed it, though after half a day of its usage the number of “French words” about Nokia engineers came to minimum. Besides, my Nokiaphobia was depressed by the fact that my new $286 device surpasses most of the $500+ congeners. Without any problems I’ve found lots of sources in the Net for software, themes, games, etc. for 60-series platform. Then I’ve applied some tuning and styling, and even visited my site through the Opera Mobile using the EDGE. More and more I like its charming screen and the way it lays in palm.

To be continued…

Farewell to Moto
Posted by MobiG @ 8:23 am

[photopress:e398.jpg,full,alignright]It’s time to say good-bye to my cell that I bought eight months ago. The Motorola E398 proved to be a nice phone, which is capable of doing lots. Well thought-out and with open architecture. After the firmware upgrade it become a Motorola E1 Rokr – able to shoot video, with voice recorder, and iTunes – and the menu view turned magically out to be like a Sony Ericsson W800 Walkman. In other words, a good model in skilful hands. Actually I don’t want to sell it but it seems to be the perfect moment to make best of it. Anyway I’ve lost half of its original price and in a little time my Moto will go to Retro Brick cell phones Museum.
The main point of agenda at the moment is to choose another device. I’ve already marked one out but truly I need your advices. Preferences: seriousness, camera not less than 1 megapixel, extension card availability, price not over 300 bucks, GPRS & EDGE, speakerphone and voice recorder. Do not suggest BenqSiemens, please!

PS. the phone on the picture is not exactly the one I own

T-Mobile’s Porn-Craft
Posted by MobiG @ 9:41 pm

[photopress:heidi_klum.jpg,thumb,alignleft] The official verdict from T-Mobile as to why a minor – an eight year old girl – was able to receive messages from a service called Hot Babes is quite simple. T-Mobile just doesn’t class the content as adult.

See T-Mobile sends smut to eight year old girl. The fact that the multimedia messages showed topless women doesn’t apparently count. Which the INQ finds somewhat astounding since – as a family orientated site – we wouldn’t normally print pictures anything like as risqué as these.

By an amazing co-incidence, one of the women in question bears a remarkable resemblance to super-model Heidi Klum. Celebrities aren’t our normally field of excellence. But it just so happens that Heidi was one of two models at the recent BMW Sauber F1 launch which we attended courtesy of Intel.

The other model was Alessandra Ambrosio, who is apparently Brazilian.

But we digress. Our irate young mother now has to complain formally to T-Mobile about the content in question. If she doesn’t get a satisfactory response, she can then complain to the IMCB – the Independent Mobile Classification Body responsible for setting a Classification Framework.

In other words, you can appeal to the IMCB if you think that your network operator/content provider is supplying material of an adult nature to non-adults.

The IMCB can be found here. Other key words that can be sent to 3060 which will punch a hole straight through T-Mobile’s Content Lock provision include – Girl, Tackle, Hunk and Erotic. Somehow we don’t think that Dilbert falls into the same class.

Oh, and Hot Babes is free for the first 30 days after which each message costs 30 pence (aprx. 50 cent).

Cell – the Book
Posted by MobiG @ 6:58 pm

[photopress:stephen_king_cell.jpg,thumb,alignleft] Stephen King – our mentor and shaper of our souls has officially joined the gadgets’ world with his new book Cell, which is due on the 24th of January 2006. What is it about? Well…

What happens on the afternoon of October 1 came to be known as the Pulse,
a signal sent though every operating cell phone that turns its user into something…well, something less than human. Savage, murderous, unthinking – and on a wanton rampage. Terrorist act? Cyber prank gone haywire?

It’s Stephen King – should I say more? :)

Toilet-phone
Posted by Gizzie @ 12:14 am

[photopress:phonetoilet2.jpg,full,alignleft] Gizmodo has posted a photo-report of what could happen if you leave a cell in inappropriate places:

My sister came to visit from California this weekend. While the taxi to the airport was waiting downstairs, she misplaced her LG flip phone. (It’s an ancient model, I don’t even know which one.) We frantically searched the Robischon house for it to no avail. Not long after, the toilet backed up.

My top 10 events of 2005
Posted by MobiG @ 3:35 pm

1. I was presented with 40 GB creative Zen extra jukebox on my birthday in February.
2. The same day I also was presented with pocket PC HP iPaq on which I create this message.
3. I’ve acquired broadband for home; before I used awful dial-up (I’m serious)
4. I finally upgraded my cell to Motorola e398, but actually I’m still using my old Panasonic GD93 with another operator’s package and don’t care it hasn’t color screen and Java. It doesn’t look like a gadget but still can be used like a phone ;)
5. GTA San Andreas out on PC.
6. We bought big screen TV for a living room and it was Samsung, just 29 inch.
7. Siemens sold its mobile department to Benq and soon German famous brandname will be changed on cell phones and other portable devices.
8. I totally upgraded my desktop – new CPU chip, motherboard supporting SLI, video card (single yet), satellite receiver, memory. AMD based certainly and waiting for M2 and DDR2 for this platform. Maybe dual core CPU but not now – let the Windows and another software reach dual stream performance first.
9. Our crew bought this cute domain name and started creating one more moblog ;) now you can read only my posts but other team members are getting ready and looking for ads for this site :)
10. Opera became free and much more optional in its 8.5 version.

Talking Mice
Posted by MobiG @ 7:56 pm

[photopress:sony_vaio_talking_mouse.jpg,thumb,alignleft] It looks like there is a tendency to multifunctionality at the accessories’ market. Today I’ve found two mice: from YapperNut and Sony. Both devices are similar in essence (mouse converting into VoIP supporting receiver), though have different design and, undoubtedly, price :)
In the case “Who was the first” I guess Sony looses, but in the case “Who will skim the cream off” the situation is vice versa.

No Cell Phone for Russian President
Posted by MobiG @ 8:22 pm

president putin At the beginning of the year Russian Telecommunication Minister Leonid Reiman had a meeting with president Putin and reported that 84% of Russian population is cell phone users. But what was a surprise when Putin claimed that he doesn’t own a cell. It is really a surprise, because it is rumored that his wife is a co-owner of Megafon – one of the biggest Russian Cell Operators.
