Ballistic trots out new cases for Droid X, HTC Evo, and Samsung Fascinate
Posted by MobiG @ 2:57 pm

Ballistic has a ton of cases that cover just about every smartphone out there in protection to keep you from killing it in a drop. The company has cases that offer varying degrees of protection from five layer offerings to three layer cases and more.

Ballistic has announced that it has a new line of cases that are made specifically to fit the Droid X, HTC Evo, and the Samsung Fascinate. The cases available for the new smartphones include the Ballistic HC and the Ballistic SG. The more protective of the two is the HC with a five-layer protection system.

The HC protection system includes a screen protector, inner soft TPU layer, impact resistant middle layer, and a soft outer TPU layer. The final layer is silicone and the case comes with a holster since its probably to thick for your pocket. The SG is a three layer offering with soft silicone inner layer, impact resistant polycarbonate middle, and a soft outer TPU layer. The cases are available now (the SG for the Evo will come late next month) in retail stores for $34.99 to $49.99.

Kork iPad Case Is Tough And Eco-Friendly
Posted by MobiG @ 11:43 am

By Chris Scott Barr

There are iPad cases out there that are every color under the sun, and made of many different materials. Including cork! The Kork iPad case is pretty much exactly what you would imagine it to be. It’s a giant piece of cork that fits snug around your iPad. It’s really tough and sturdy, yet flexible. We all have nylon, plastic, and rubber cases, but how many people are able to say that they own a cork case?

There is the obvious threat of it breaking in half, but there’s a good chance that’s only going to happen when your iPad isn’t in there. It does seem like it would be able to protect your tablet rather well, since the material should be able to take an impact. This only costs around $67 bucks, and you must admit it’s pretty spiffy, in addition to being eco-friendly

This ‘Just A Loop’ Cord Is The Simplest iPhone Case You’re Ever Going To Find
Posted by MobiG @ 9:14 pm

Just a Loop iPhone Case (Images courtesy Konstantin Leonenko)
By Andrew Liszewski

If minimalism is your thing, but you’d still like a tiny bit of extra insurance for your iPhone, you’re not going to find a simpler case than the ‘Just a Loop’ which is quite literally just a black elastic loop. For ~$13 (€10) you actually get 4 of them, which can be wrapped around any of the iPhone models (it’s engineered to be completely backwards compatible) providing a simple bumper so there’s less risk of scratching when you set it down.

Oddly enough it’s from the same inventor, Konstantin Leonenko, who created the World’s Tiniest Drill from a year or so ago. But I suspect this venture could be a bit more profitable for him. Unless someone manages to crack his revolutionary manufacturing techniques for creating elastic loops, but that seems improbable.

Update: Konstantin Leonenko has gotten in touch with us with a correction. It turns out the ‘Just a Loop’ cords are not actually made from an elastic material at all, since they would slip off the phone too easily. Instead, they’re made from a more rigid material to always ensure a tight fit. If you’d like to see them actually being installed on an iPhone, please check out this video demonstration.

Incipio’s Rad Game Boy iPhone Case That Will Never See The Light Of Day

By Andrew Liszewski

iLounge came across this totally awesome Game Boy inspired iPhone 4 case at Incipio’s booth at CES last week, and I almost feel like a tease even bringing it to your attention since due to licensing issues the company has no plans to put it into production. The realistic looking buttons, 4-way controller and even speaker grill are basically just a means to show off the company’s design and production capabilities, and to break the hearts of retro gaming fanatics.

By Andrew Liszewski

One of the sleeker iPad cases unveiled at CES this year was JOBY’s GorillaMobile Ori. Made of thin, lightweight composite aluminum it almost looks like it can be used to chop veggies in the kitchen, but it’s actually designed to prop up the iPad in a multitude of different positions depending on how you need to use it. It also completely flattens down, protecting the iPad’s display with a microfiber screen cover so you can carry it around like other folio-type cases. $79.95, available starting January 26.

Verizon iPhone 4 moved buttons means AT&T bumpers won’t fit
Posted by MobiG @ 9:22 pm

According to Verizon the physical changes between their new CDMA iPhone 4 and the original AT&T iPhone 4 basically amount to the new CDMA radio. However, we’ve spotted another potential headache for those looking to switch between the AT&T handset and the new Verizon version: the ringer mute switch and volume buttons have been moved, meaning AT&T iPhone 4 bumpers won’t fit on the Verizon handset.

The change in layout is to accomodate the new antenna design, which has seen a new notch appear just above the side controls for ringer and volume up/down. Apple’s official Bumper case – which the company gave out free to iPhone 4 users complaining about the so-called antennagate issue – has a hole cut out for the switch, but that doesn’t line up properly with the new Verizon model.

What that means is that, despite the two new phones being almost identical outwardly, users crossing over from AT&T to Verizon will not only have to pick up a new handset but new bumper cases and skins. That’s going to frustrate a lot of people, certainly, and potentially cause an accessory bottleneck in the early days of the Verizon iPhone 4′s availability from February.

More on the Verizon iPhone 4 in our hands-on.

Verizon iPhone has relocated buttons, might require new cases
Posted by MobiG @ 9:11 pm

The leaks suggested that the Verizon iPhone would have slightly relocated buttons, and it’s true — as you can see in the photo above, the newly revised CDMA antenna notch has pushed the volume and mute controls down a hair from GSM version. That means a lot of cases — Apple’s current bumpers included — won’t fit properly on the Verizon version, although many third-party cases feature an open slot for the buttons that might still work. Either way, we’d bet Apple and third-party manufacturers are scrambling to have compatible cases in stores before the February 10th launch date — just make sure to check yours first if you’re switching from AT&T.

iPhone BrickCase Can Be Customized/Made Extra Uncomfortable With LEGOs
Posted by MobiG @ 11:52 am

By Andrew Liszewski

While they might inspire imaginations and creativity, LEGO blocks are not known for being particularly, um, ergonomic. If you thought those sharp corners were a nightmare to step on, imagine having them crammed in your pocket. Because that’s exactly the scenario you’ll be dealing with if you were to customize your iPhone 4 using this LEGO-compatible studded case. Just like with PENTAX’s questionable Optio NB1000.

On the other hand, the case would let you build and use one hell of an iPhone dock. Imagine watching Pirates of the Caribbean with this thing strapped to the deck of the Black Seas Barracuda! Available in black, white and a clear version not pictured for just $19.99 each.

Jack Spade iPad Folio

Jack Spade, makers of some of the cleanest yet functional messenger bags you can buy, have applied their design aesthetics to yet another iPad Folio case. Like other offerings it allows you to prop your iPad up for hands-free viewing, and use it in a portrait or landscape orientation, but it includes a strategic cutout on the back making it compatible with an iPad dock. There’s also a couple of thin pockets on the inside of the flap for stashing documents or even your sync cable. At $69.95 you’re probably paying a bit of a premium for the ‘Jack Spake’ patch on the front, but I have no doubts you’re also getting a very well-made and high-quality folio.

Power Support unveils new screen films and coating for Clear Air Jacket
Posted by MobiG @ 3:12 pm

Protecting your iPhone is something that all owners want to do. The smartphones are fragile and a drop could spell doom for your gadget. Scratches on the screen will certainly annoy you for the life of the device. The best way to keep the iPhone from getting scratches on the screen and from getting broken if you drop it is a case and screen protective film.

A company called Power Support has announced that it has a new protective film for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. The new film is called HD Anti-Glare and it has a matte finish on the film to help reduce the glare when you are using your device. The film has a surface that is less grainy than other films on the market to reduce glare allowing it to have less of an impact on the screen quality when you are watching video.

The company has also announced that it has a new Air Jacket case with a self-healing coating. The Air Jacket is a very thin clear plastic case that you can barely see on the iPhone. The new coating is able to eliminate minor scratches on its own to keep the case from getting cloudy looking over time. The company will be at CES showing these new products along with other accessories.
