Nexus S emerges in white attire, but it only covers its rear
Posted by MobiG @ 2:07 pm

Staying true to its Galaxy S forefather, the Nexus S has shown up with a new white shell, which, just as with the Galaxy S, only extends to its rear portions, leaving the front end a familiar shade of noir. Just what’s keeping manufacturers from blanching their phones’ visage, we don’t know, but at least it’s looking like there’ll be some variation in the Nexus S’ palette. We did notice a “Silver Black” Nexus S sprouting up in European retailers’ listings a couple of weeks ago, which this could well be — it all depends on how loosely these companies define the word “silver.” There’s no knowledge on when or where this chromatically altered S will be on sale, but you’ll know more as soon as we do.

Update: First picture from the wilderness of the white back is now embedded after the break. The Next Web suggests Vodafone may be the European carrier for this particular version of the handset.

LG Optimus 2X goes on sale in Korea, teases white version for February
Posted by MobiG @ 7:31 pm

No big surprises here, unless you count that snowy white number up above. Yep, LG’s not only stolen a march on Motorola in introducing the world’s first dual-core smartphone, it’s also about to beat Apple to the white handset punch as well. The 1080p-recording, Tegra 2-wielding Optimus 2X is now available in its home market of South Korea and, if LG stays true to its roadmap, should be filtering through into Europe before this month is out. We don’t know if its white variant will ever escape the clutches of Korea (and we sure hope it does), but it should be making its bodacious debut over there in February.

iGloLEDset is now ready to rave Android-style
Posted by MobiG @ 9:31 pm

You remember iGloLEDset, right? How could you forget? The multicolored, WiFi-enabled strip of LEDs is basically a party waiting to happen — assuming you’re ready and willing to pony up the $300 entry fee — but until now, they’ve only been controllable with iOS devices. Well, good news, Android users: your ticket to ride the light wave just arrived, and iGloLEDset’s makers have celebrated with a little demo video you can see after the break. The new app’s available now.

Motorola’s new logo: it’s red
Posted by MobiG @ 12:04 am

Been wondering about what impact Motorola’s January split into two distinct entities will have on your humble consumption of consumer electronics? Well, after attending Moto’s big Christmas do in London, we seem to have uncovered one of the biggies: the Droid maker is switching to a crimson new brand identity from the start of the new year. They won’t tell us much more than that, but we can only surmise that the slight chromatic deviation will be in an effort to distinguish between the Mobility arm, which will make all the pocketable things we know and love, and the Solutions group in charge of the less glamorous business hardware. We’re sure there’ll be some reshuffling of middle management and other structural reorganizations taking place, but we’ve got the big story right here: the stationery, it is a-changing.

Lenovo teases S800 phone with translucent color display, won’t let anyone touch it
Posted by MobiG @ 6:01 pm

Step aside, Sony Ericsson, your Xperia Pureness has been beaten at its own game by an enigmatic new handset that Lenovo has been showing off over in China. The above images come from a Beijing fashion event, where Lenovo chose to debut its S800 featurephone with a color translucent display. It looks to still be at the concept stage, one that not many of these luxury items seem to ever exit, but lest you think it’s not for real, the models showing it off at the show were photographed backstage using the lustworthy piece of glass to do whatever it is that models do with their phones. Check out the links below for more.

Dell Streak busts out a white back for Best Buy exclusive
Posted by MobiG @ 5:14 pm

Seems like Best Buy has developed something of a taste for snow-white exclusives, as it’s now become the first retailer to offer up Dell’s 5-inch Streak tabletphone with an alabaster case. We’re hearing the only way to grab the new palette option is to go down to your nearest Best Buy store, though online reservation and payment is also available. Not every store has them just yet, so checking ahead of time might also be advisable. Skip past the break to see the new Streak’s front end — it actually retains a lot of the black bezel of its noir family mate.

Motorola Droid 2 Global now available at Verizon for $199
Posted by MobiG @ 11:01 am

Never mind that November 11 rumor, the Droid 2 Global is available to buy from Verizon right now. The dual-mode CDMA/GSM handset from Moto — equipped with a 1.2GHz processor, don’t forget — is ready to be yours today for $199.99 after a $100 mail-in rebate and subject to the usual two-year contractual commitment. If you still need convincing, this new SKU also comes in a sparkling white option… can you really resist a white globetrotting Droid? See more of it after the break.

[Thanks, Anthony]

BlackBerry Torch now burns in red and white hues at AT&T stores
Posted by MobiG @ 1:02 am

Right on schedule, a day before Windows Phone 7 hits its stores in force, AT&T is letting a couple of new BlackBerry Torch SKUs out to play. They’re basic repaint jobs, described by the carrier as Sunset Red and Pure White, the latter of which almost lives up to its name by including a white keyboard but falters by sticking to the noir optical pad. Pricing is set at $499 if you never want to see AT&T again after purchasing one or $99 if you can commit to a two-year relationship. Same as with the “Charcoal” Torch.

[Thanks, Matthew]

HTC Gratia is an Aria by another name, coming to Europe in November
Posted by MobiG @ 3:29 pm

It seems like launching a battalion of new handsets over the past month wasn’t enough for HTC, so today the company’s rolling out yet another option for European mobile phone buyers. Americans will already be familiar with the Gratia from their experience with AT&T’s Aria, which looks to have made a more or less straight transition to the Old World markets. It now comes with Android 2.2 as its OS, while retaining its HTC Sense top-level skin (notably without the new “new” Sense additions present in the Desire HD and Desire Z), and is available in a pair of fresh new hues that include the deep green above and a lustrous white number after the break. Black is also an option for the more conservative among you. Look out for the Gratia on your local Euro retailer’s cheap and cheerful shelves from next month.

HTC outs black Legend and white Desire to keep you busy for the time being
Posted by MobiG @ 4:54 pm

It’s almost a given that HTC may have a little announcement for us next Monday, but chances are you’d like to let Windows Phone 7 settle in for a bit while you cling on to your trusty green bot. Assuming neither the Desire HD nor the troublesome Desire Z / G2 tickled your fancy, you now have two more options for consideration: a “phantom black” Legend and a “brilliant white” Desire (as seen a few weeks ago). Patrons in Europe should be seeing these new handsets starting this month, but here’s a caveat: we’re told that rather than going 100 percent SLCD for the Desire, it’s actually a mix of both SLCD and AMOLED, so be sure to double-check with your store before handing over your hard-earned euros.
