Sesame Street flash drives look like characters and have videos installed
Posted by MobiG @ 3:54 pm

I bet just about everyone knows Sesame Street and has watched the show as a kid, with their kids, or has at least watched the Katy Perry YouTube video where she runs around with Elmo that was banned from the kids show over too much boobage. If you have a kido that is a big fan of some of the Sesame Street characters a new line of flash drives that look like the characters is now shipping.

There are seven different flash drives and they are shipped like the face of Elmo, Cookie Monster, Ernie, Abby, Big Bird, and Grover with one that looks like the Sesame Street Logo. Each has a wearable strap so kids can wear them around. The drives have enough storage to hold 400 photos, songs, printable content, and it comes with a full-length home video of each character.

The videos include The Best of Elmo, Abby in Wonderland, Big Bird’s Do the Alphabet, Bert and Ernie’s Word Play, Cookie Monster’s Best Bites, A Celebration of Me: Grover, or Sesame Street’s 25th Anniversary: A Musical Celebration. You can pick up all of the special flash drives on Amazon and at other online stores for about $30 each.

Silicon Power offers limited edition flash drives
Posted by MobiG @ 3:39 pm

siliconsnow sg
Silicon Power has unveiled a couple new flash drives that have a pretty finish that will appeal to users that want a drive that looks good and works well. The new flash drives are limited edition and include the Touch 852 Snow Flake and the Luxmini 323 Sparkle. Both of the drives are rather girly looking and if you have a geeky gal in your life, they might make a good gift with the holidays fast approaching.

The Touch 852 Snow Flake has a hexagonal diamond cut surface with diamond lakes that look like glistening snow according to Silicon Power. The flash drive has a Chip on Board packing process that makes it waterproof, shockproof, and dust proof making it very rugged.

The other new limited edition drive is the Luxmini 323 Sparkle USB flash Drive. This drive has a piano lacquer finish with a diamond flake design. Apparently, these are the type of flash drives that you buy on looks alone; Silicon Power is mum on the storage capacity and price of the drives.

Remember that scene in the Star Wars flicks where Han and Luke take some Stormtrooper uniforms to get access to save Leia? Mimobots is celebrating the scenes with the duo dressed as Stormtroopers with a pair of new Mimobot flash drives.

mimobotstorm sg

The bots are offered with two lids. One of the lids is the Stormtrooper helmet and the other lid is hair allowing you to have the bots both ways. The extra hair cap is a limited edition item with only 500 of them available.

After those caps are gone, the drives will come with the helmet only. The drives come with digital content loaded onto them from the factory. A 4GB version is $44.95 and you can get capacities from 2GB to 16GB. The largest 16GB version is right at $100.

Keyport adds USB drive, still hides keys
Posted by MobiG @ 4:03 pm

We first talked about the Keyport way back in 2007 when the thing debuted at $295. The Keyport is a large fob that can hold up to six keys for different needs inside. You can get keys for your car, house, locks, and all manner of other things that need keys.

keyport 1

Keyport has announced that it is now offering up a USB flash drive that can go into one of the ports on the Keyport. The flash drive has 4GB of storage and is something that I bet lots of folks have wanted inside the Keyport before.

The best news is that the Keyport has come down in price quite a bit since it first launched. You can now get the Keyport with one auto key for $99. You can add additional keys and drive the price up some. Right now the flash drive accessory isn’t priced and isn’t on the official Keyport site. I can’t see 4GB of storage costing that much.

Kingston whips out new USB 3.0 flash drive called DataTraveler Ultimate 3.0
Posted by MobiG @ 3:43 pm

There are a number of USB 3.0 external storage products on the market today. These drives are generally larger external HDDs though that are larger than most of us will want to take with us on the road. Kingston has offered up a new USB 3.0 flash drive called the Ultimate 3.0.

kingstonusb3 sg

The Ultimate 3.0 is the first USB 3.0 flash drive from Kingston and it can be had in three different capacities. There are 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB versions available and the flash drive is backwards compatible with USB 2.0 ports as well.

The DataTraveler Ultimate 3.0 has data transfer speeds as high as 80MB/s read and 60MB/s write. The flash drive ships with a “Y” cable that is needed for the drive to work in a USB 3.0 port due to power requirements. Kingston says in testing that the drive was able to write a 3.9GB movie file in 1 minute and 13 seconds. The 16GB version sells for $89, the 32GB is $138, and the 64GB is $270.

Silicon Power Unique 530 flash drive launches
Posted by MobiG @ 3:09 pm

sp530 sgSilicon Power has hoards of flash drives and other storage solutions in its line. The company has added a new product to its line of flash drives called the Unique 530. The flash drive is enclosed in a “green” silica gel material that is pliable and provides a “sporty” style according to the maker. I’m not sure the silica gel has a sporty look, but it should make the drive more rugged thanks to the rubbery nature of the material.

The silica also has ridges to make it easy to grip the drive. The drive claims to be the first on the market to fuse metallic accessories with the silica gel material. The metallic accessories promise to withstand as much as 10kg of pull force making it likely to survive living on a keychain or in a bag where it might be pulled.

The flash drive has a chip on board packaging technology and is waterproof, shockproof, and dustproof thanks to that gel overlay. The drive ships with software for backups and security functions. No lid is used and the connector has a slide out design for protection. The drive measures 56.18 x 20.14 x 9.09 and weighs 9g.

LaCie debuts tiny MosKeyto flash drive
Posted by MobiG @ 3:31 pm

For a long time the wireless dongles that we needed for things like wireless keyboards and desktops were long and fat adapters that often blocked the surrounding USB ports. Thankfully manufacturers have started making those dongles so small you can plug them in and just leave them there. Flash drives today are mostly like those old wireless dongles.

laciemoskeyto sg

They are long and fat and when used on a notebook or netbook with USB ports close together you may lose one of the scarce ports. LaCie has unveiled a new flash drive that is a lot like those nano wireless adapters. The new flash drive is called the MosKeyto.

The little thing comes in 4GB and 8GB capacities. The scant size of the flash drive at 21 x 16 x 10mm and 10g of weight means you can plug it in and just leave it in the USB port if you want. The 4GB version sells for $17.99 and the 8GB version will cost you $27.99 with both available right now.
