Win A LevelUP Gaming Tower!
Posted by MobiG @ 11:01 am

By Chris Scott Barr

Time really does fly sometimes, doesn’t it? I can’t even remember the last time we gave something away. Don’t worry, we’re going to fix that right now. So what’s on the block to give away today? It’s a little something for my fellow gamers out there. Especially the ones whose living rooms get consumed by their games and peripherals. That’s right, we’re giving away a LevelUP Gaming Tower.

These handy storage towers will hold your console, several games, controllers and even Rock Band/Guitar Hero guitars. There are three console versions (PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii), so one lucky winner will get their choice from the three.

So what do you have to do to win? It’s only slightly more complicated than the usual comment bit. We want you guys to give LevelUp some Facebook love, since they’re still trying to make a name for themselves. So if you live in the US, just “Like” the LevelUp Gear page, then come back here and drop a comment letting us know which one you’d like to win. Then, next Friday we’ll pick a winner at random (and check to see if you’re on the “Like” list for LevelUp.) Good luck!

AT&T offering a free month of Zune to folks who buy a Windows Phone 7 handset this year (update: 3-month Zune Pass from MS, and free Xbox 360s in Austria!)
Posted by MobiG @ 9:54 am

We already knew AT&T was giving away ilomilo and a free month of U-verse Mobile to folks who buy one of its glorious Windows Phone 7 phones. What else? Well, AT&T is tossing in a free month of Zune Pass for good measure. Now, Microsoft already offers 14 day free trials to the Zune-curious, and there’s nothing stopping other carriers or Microsoft itself extending this deal to the rest of the world — we think the “first one’s free” method of addiction generation is particularly great for subscription music. Still, it’s nice to know AT&T has such an offer sewn up. Now that the Xbox is getting a native Zune UI at long last, how about a free month of Zune for Xbox Live subscribers as well? Microsoft can afford it.

[Thanks, Morgan G.]

Update: We just heard that Austrian carrier A1′s offering a free Xbox 360 4GB to everyone signing up for or extending a contract for a HTC Trophy on October 21st only, and there’ll also be a Xbox 360 raffle for 360 lucky pre-orderers. If you so desire, A1 will also let you sign up for two contracts and take two Xboxes home as well. Our tipster added that the company isn’t known for doing giveaways, so it’s very likely that it’s getting a little help from Microsoft. [Thanks, Ben M.]

And speaking of which, another eagle-eyed reader spotted that Microsoft is giving away three-month Zune Passes to those signing up for the WP7 pre-order notification and actually buying a phone. Go get it while it’s hot! [Thanks, Bryan]

SlashGear You Rock Guitar Giveaway Winner Announced!
Posted by MobiG @ 11:47 pm

If you’ll recall, it was the end of September when we decided that we’d go ahead and do one of our giveaways. This time around, it was a You Rock Guitar, which is still billed as one of “the most versatile rock guitars on the planet.” Pretty bold words, but considering the features that come packed in this guitar, they could be right. And, while we know the anticipation has been intense, we can finally say that we’ve chosen our winner: Ryan Neary.

So, what did Ryan Neary win? Let’s recap. Ryan won an electronic guitar, which will work with either Rock Band, or Guitar Hero, as well as work as a full functioning MIDI controller instrument. And, if that’s not good enough, it will also function as a standard digital guitar, which you can use with an amp. There are 99 pre-loaded preset sounds on the instrument, 25 professional guitar sounds, 50 synths for non-guitar noises, and the ability to use your own custom sounds. You’ll be able to hook up your new digital instrument to a Mac or PC, and it will work with many audio packages out there.

So there you have it, ladies and gentlemen. The winner of the SlashGear You Rock Guitar Giveaway has been announced, and he will be contacted very soon. Stay tuned for our next giveaway, where you could possibly be the next winner.

The Daily Slash: September 24th 2010
Posted by MobiG @ 5:31 am

Welcome to the Friday edition of The Daily Slash. Hopefully your week went by well, and fast. The weekend is just about on us, but we have just one last bit to get through. Tonight, in our story from around the Web, we’ve got a robot that learns something not so good (but it’s awesome). And then, follow us as we wrap up what’s been going on around the R3 Media Network.

Robot Learning

From Around the Web

Robot Teaches Itself to Fire Bow and Arrow: We know robots are getting smarter, and better at pretty much everything, thanks to the ingenious engineers and designers behind their creation. This robot, developed by Dr. Petar Kormushev at the Italian Institute of Technology, has taught itself to not only fire the bow and arrow, but fire it better over time. The robot is designed from open source software, and features Augmented Reward Chained Regression (ARCHER) technology, which is the learning algorithm that made it possible for it to learn how to hit bulls eyes. The possibilities are certainly endless, and slightly disturbing. [via TechnaBob]

Announcing The Winners Of The Ferrari Game Pad And Safe Driver!
Posted by MobiG @ 8:50 am

By Chris Scott Barr

We’ve got a couple of contests to update you on, as I’m sure you’re all anxiously awaiting the results. First, we’ll start with the Lemur Monitors: Safe Driver, as it was the first contest to go up. User ‘bebe211′ will be happy to know that she’ll be able to monitor her husband’s speed at all times (and my apologies to the aforementioned husband!). So congratulations to her!

Now there is the matter of the Limited Edition Ferrari Wireless Gamepad. The random number deities commanded that reader”jason” be handed one of these controllers. Perhaps it was his offer to paint his consoles and computer to match that appeased them. Congratulations to him, and stay tuned for more contests in the future!

Win A Limited Edition Ferrari Wireless Gamepad For Your PC And PS3!
Posted by MobiG @ 1:03 pm

By Chris Scott Barr

I know what you’re thinking. “Didn’t these guys just start a giveaway on Friday?” Well if you must know, we did. However we’re so excited about getting free stuff into your hands that there’s going to be a new contest running until next Monday. This time we’re giving away a Ferrari Wireless Gamepad 430 Scuderia Limited Edition from Thrustmaster.

Yes, that is quite a mouthful. This controller was inpired by the Ferrari 430 Scuderia, which makes it ideal for racing games, though you need not reserve it for only those titles. Extra features include an optical wheel with auto-centering (for better steering), dual progressive triggers and  fully-customizable buttons. The best part is that this gamepad will work for both the PC and PS3.

The worst part about giving away items like this is that we can’t give them to all of you. Generally there is only one to be had. However, there’s a similar contest running over at GamerFront, also starting today. So if you’re in the US, drop a comment below for a chance to win, then head over there and drop another to double your odds. Good luck!
