As the everlasting debate rages on, and brains continue to / not to melt with every passing phone call, Casemate’s taking no chances whatsoever. By collaborating with Pong — a company that makes its ends by “protecting users of cellular telephones from the potentially harmful effects of radiation exposure” — the Bounce was born. For all intents and purposes, it’s a simplistic form-fitting iPhone 4 case (BlackBerry models are en route), available in a foursome of hues and tested to reduce normal cellphone radiation (SAR) by at least 60 percent. Purportedly, the case can redirect your phone’s electromagnetic energy away from your head… right into the brain of some lucky chap sitting next to you on the subway. But hey, at least it serves another purpose: solving that blasted iPhone 4 reception issue. Two birds, one $49.99 dent in your credit card. Propaganda vid is just past the break.
Here is a case worth looking at! I’ve seen a lot of cases for the iPhone 4; some are extremely heavy duty, some being flimsy and utterly useless. The Vandelay Case by AGF is a wonderful middle ground between almost non-existent and big and bulky.
Coming in a micro-patterned red or black microfiber backing, these cases look good and do their job simultaneously. Two layers or polycarbonate protect your phone from harm, and fit onto a swivel holster with a locking feature that can turn it into a mini stand. The holster was also designed to hold the phone either facing in or out, depending on your preference.
The hard plastic case fits snug on the phone and opens with a slide off bottom portion that makes docking your phone quick and easy without needing to remove the entire case. All other buttons and ports are kept open and available; the only downside to this will be the need to “dust” your phone every now and then.
This is a great case for everyday use, only costs about 35 bucks if not cheaper and is a great “mid-ground” for those who don’t want too little protection, or a giant tire for a phone.
If you are the festive type, I bet you already have decorations up for Christmas and the dogs barking jingle bells ring tone is on your phone already. What you need to really get ready for the holidays is a decoration for your iPhone.
Speck has a special line of holiday iPhone cases that will fit the iPhone 3G/3GS and the iPhone 4. The cases are from the CandyShell line and you can get them in mistletoe green with Santa for all three iPhone models, poinsettia red with a snowman on the 3G/3GS only, or CherryIce blue with a snowman for the iPhone 4.
Each of the special cases is $29.99 and can be ordered up right now. Other than the special Christmas, designs the cases are run of the mill CandyShell offerings with protection from drops and scratches.
Nuu Mini Key didn’t satisfy your desire for a physical keyboard on your iPhone? Try this TK-421 QWERTY case instead, which sexes up the formula with a swiveling package that hearkens back to the T-Mobile Sidekick. There’s still no extra battery life to be had here, and yes, the keypad connects via Bluetooth, but we’re willing to sacrifice a good bit for a totally awesome hinge and a dedicated number row. Invented, designed and sold by ThinkGeek, gadget stocking stuffer seller extraordinaire, the unit’s priced at a very reasonable $50. Shame it’s not slated to ship till “mid-November” and only then in limited quantities, else we’d snap up two right now. Watch that screen spin right round after the break.
Most of us want a case for our smartphones or music players to keep them safe when we are carrying them with us. The thing with most cases is that you have to have a separate speaker if you want to listen to music on the go without headphones.
A new case called the iMainGo 2 has debuted that is a case and a portable speaker dock all in one. The device measures in at 5.7″ x 3.8″ x 2.4″ and weighs 9 ounces. It has a pair of 2.5W speakers on one side and a clear sleeve on the other that lets you see and control your device. The sleeve doesn’t keep the touchscreen functions of your device from working.
Power for the speakers comes from four AAA batteries good for up to 30 hours of play per set. The speaker set has a tuned bass port and it will connect to any 3.5mm headphone jack. The case is made from neoprene that is waterproof. Any device with a 3.5mm headphone jack will work with the case. You can order one now for about $40.
My kids really like to play with my iPhone and the iPod touch we have laying around here. The thing I always worry about is that they will drop the iPhone and crack the screen. Even if I have a case on my iPhone my I know if you drop it just right with the case on the screen will crack.
A new case from Griffin has debuted called the Woogie. It looks like a flower that is green and has six little arms. In the middle of the stuffed animal looking case is a plastic covered pouch where you can put the iPhone or touch in for protection.
The little case has a speaker built-in as well and gets power from a pair of AAA batteries that are included. The soft stuffed animal design should do a great job of padding the iPhone if the child drops the thing. You can get the Woogie for $19.99 right now.
Ever wish your iPhone was less pocket-friendly and more throw-across-the-room-friendly? Then the ArkHippo may just be the case for you. Made of a proprietary material “similar to Crocs shoes,” the case (said to be “coming soon”) promises to let you comfortably rest your iPhone against your shoulder, prop it up to watch a video, or simply toss it around to your heart’s content. Still not sold on it? Head on past the break for a quick video — and don’t worry, we’re pretty sure the final version won’t be made of foam.
Can’t find an official iPhone 4 bumper? Driving yourself mad trying to give your new smartphone white glove treatment? Fret not, as a couple of case makers have outed new iPhone 4 clothing that’s meant to specifically dodge those naughty reception issues that seem to occur whenever your sweaty palm makes contact with that now infamous metal band. Element Case — the same folks responsible for the downright lust-worthy Joule stand for iPad — has just revealed their first iPhone 4 case, the Vapor (shown above). The company claims that its $79.95 enclosure provides an aircraft-grade, CNC’d aluminum frame lined with a shock-absorbent material, the latter of which “addresses iPhone 4 reception issues caused by direct hand to phone cradling.” For now, it’s up for pre-order (shipments are expected to start next week) in black / black and black / pink, with more colors to become available in the future. As for Ivyskin? It’s stepping things up even further by naming its product the “iPhone 4 Reception Case.” No need for subtly, we see. Hailed as the “world’s thinnest polycarbonate shell” for Apple’s latest iDevice, this here sleeve is the one to get if you’re look to minimize added bulk and not cover up any of Cupertino’s design cues. Best of all, this one retails for just $14.99 and ships with both front and back scratch-free body armors. Crazy that it has come to this, you know?
There are iPhone cases, and then there’s Magellan‘s waterproof Toughcase. Priced at $199.99, it’s actually just as expensive as a new iPhone 4 on contract, and double the price of an iPhone 3GS (which it actually houses). So, what does two Benjamins get you? Most would argue “not nearly enough,” but argonauts may beg to differ. The case meets IPX-7 waterproof standards, enabling it to be submerged at a depth of one meter for up to 30 minutes, and there’s also an integrated 1,840mAh battery that’s able to “double the life” of your iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS or second / third-generation iPod touch. Moreover, there’s a built-in high sensitivity SiRFstar III GPS chipset for superior GPS reception, and nothing here prevents consumers from accessing the touchscreen. ‘Course, the sex appeal of your iDevice goes right out of the window once you strap this monster on, and there’s no official support for Apple’s newest iPhone, but it’s hard to knock the approach here.
We’re not sure if it’s a result of some hard information or simply an educated guess, but it looks like the first next-gen iPhone cases (or would-be cases) are now starting to find their way before a camera. The most convincing of those comes courtesy of Hardmac, which received the image above from one of its contacts in China — a quick search of the model name also reveals the manufacturer, Shenzhen Soonleader Electronic Co, and a few more pics (check them out after the break). As you can see, it has all the right curves, a larger opening for a flash and, if you look really closely, you can see the necessary spaces for the new side buttons. Like we said, this could well just be a case of a manufacturer looking to get a jump start, or it could be… something more.
