The album includes special versions of old songs as well as previously unreleased songs while the documentary will have many extras. HOLLYWOOD, Calif., Feb. 1, 2011 /PRNewswire/ — The Beatles’ ‘LOVE’ album and ‘All Together Now,’ the feature-length documentary about the making of The Beatles LOVE by Cirque du Soleil®,will make their worldwide digital debuts this month exclusively on the iTunes Store® (www.itunes.com). Both titles are available for pre-order on iTunes starting today in most countries. ‘LOVE’ will be released on iTunes worldwide February 8 and ‘All Together Now’ will follow soon after.

The ‘LOVE’ album (US $12.99) includes exclusive, previously-unreleased ‘LOVE’ versions of “The Fool on the Hill” and “Girl,” and comes as an iTunes LP featuring an art gallery that blends images of the Beatles with colorful photos from the acclaimed stage production. ‘LOVE’ will also be available to purchase and download as individual songs.

The ‘All Together Now’ documentary (US $12.99 HD) will be offered with iTunes Extras including the 84-minute film, three bonus featurettes and a trailer for the ‘LOVE’ stage production, and is also available to rent.

‘LOVE,’ a Cirque du Soleil creation and co-production with The Beatles’ company, Apple Corps Ltd., celebrates the musical legacy of The Beatlesandis presented exclusively at The Mirage in Las Vegas. This joint artistic venture, born from the personal friendship between George Harrison and Guy Laliberte, marks the first time that Apple Corps Ltd. has agreed to a major theatrical partnership. Since opening to rave reviews on June 30, 2006, ‘LOVE’ has played to more than four million audience members.

To create the lush soundscape for ‘LOVE,’ producers Sir George Martin and Giles Martin worked with the entire archive of Beatles master recordings at EMI’s Abbey Road Studios. Netgear‘s CEO and global chairman has heavily criticized Apple for its closed ecosystem, blaming Steve Jobs’ ego for certain aspects of company strategy, and suggesting that once the iconic CEO steps down permanently Apple will struggle against Android becoming the de facto standard in consumer electronics. Speaking to the Sydney Morning Herald, CEO Patrick Lo claimed that Steve Jobs’ departure is “probably not far away” and that Apple’s closed system is leaving content partners “wary” of the company’s control.

“Once Steve Jobs goes away, which is probably not far away, then Apple will have to make a strategic decision on whether to open up the platform. Ultimately a closed system just can’t go that far … If they continue to close it and let Android continue to creep up then it’s pretty difficult as I see it.” Patrick Lo, CEO, Netgear

As for Jobs’ ego, Lo criticized the Apple exec for what he believes to be a personally-motivated attack on Adobe’s Flash technology. “What’s the reason for him to trash Flash?” Lo questions, referring to Jobs’ well-publicized open letter to Adobe. ”There’s no reason other than ego.”

While Lo’s comments are extreme, it doesn’t look like they’ll have much impact on Apple’s attitude towards Netgear; according to the exec himself, “Steve Jobs doesn’t give me a minute!” Still, Cupertino can take some enjoyment from the fact that Lo is similarly dismissive about Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 platform, suggesting that “Microsoft is over – game over – from my point of view.”

Apple has released iTunes 10.1.2 for the Mac and PC, adding CDMA support in the latest update.  This is necessary for those who plan on buying Verizon’s iPhone 4 and have it sync properly with iTunes. The release didn’t specifically mention Verizon and only referred to an “iPhone 4 (CDMA model)” which has people speculating whether other CDMA carriers for the iPhone 4 may be in the near future.

The release also came with notes about AirPlay and the usual offerings of stability and performance improvements as follows:

iTunes 10.1.2 syncs music, movies, and more with iPhone 4 (CDMA model) and provides a number of important stability and performance improvements.

iTunes 10.1 came with several new features and improvements, including:

Use AirPlay to instantly and wirelessly stream videos from iTunes to the all-new Apple TV.

Sync with your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iOS 4.2.

The description in Software Update may only say that it brings a “number of important stability and performance improvements,” but Apple’s just-released iTunes 10.1.2 update also adds another fairly important feature: support for the Verizon iPhone 4. That detail is tucked away in the “before you install” document included when you download iTunes from Apple’s website (rather than Software Update), and actually only refers to the “iPhone 4 (CDMA model),” which you can read into what you will.

The Mini Connected app finally hit the App Store back in December, enabling those with suitably equipped little German/British autos to connect their iPhones and iPods and do what nature intended. Well, everything nature intended except for streaming Pandora. Now that solemn right is a possibility too, with the latest version of Pandora available in iTunes. Update that, plug your iPhone into your Mini, and you can get your stream on, just like we did at CES. However, if you’re more of a domestics guy or gal you don’t have to feel left out, because this new version supports Ford’s SYNC AppLink as well. And, yes, we had some quality hands-on time with that, too.

I can understand someone loathing marketing calls. I don’t even answer my phone if I don’t recognize the number. Over the weekend the iTunes store hit the magic 10 billion downloads number and as promised Apple called up the lucky 10 billion downloader to deliver their price.

The problem was that when Gail Davis, the mom of the girl who downloaded the 10 billionth app, answered the phone and heard the Apple person start to talk, she hung up. Apparently, the girl who downloaded the app realized what dear old mom had done and begged Gail to call back.

Davis said, “I thought it was a prank call. I said, ‘Thank you very much, I’m not interested’ and I hung up.” Davis then said, “The girls came down and said it wasn’t a prank. I had a moment of panic.” She called back to the help desk at Apple, who couldn’t help ironically. Luckily, for Davis and her daughters, an Apple exec called back and the gift card made its way into the family’s hands. Davis said, “The more I thought about it, the more I realized it was a genuine call. The girls were getting quite tense. They never would have forgiven me. They would have held it against me for all eternity.” The winning app downloaded was Paper Glider, a free app.
