The Motorola Droid Bionic has been taking its time to launch. First announced at CES, the smartphone has since been delayed over the last six months to incorporate some new enhancements. It’s been speculated that the enhancements should include both boosted internal specs as well as a new form factor. Today, a leaked Best Buy ad confirms that the Droid Bionic has indeed been redesigned with a new look.

Although no specifics were given on the enhancements, the changes are said to be in response to feedback received at CES and possibly to beef up its specs against then competitor, the Atrix 4G. After being incubated for six months, the Droid Bionic is looking to be a real killer phone with mighty specs and a new look that’s more slick and squared-off.

The Droid Bionic will have a giant 4.5-inch qHD touchscreen now powered by a dual-core processor, the first to also be running on the blazing fast Verizon 4G LTE network. The Best Buy ad’s tag line sure conveys a powerful message: “With the ferocious force of Verizon 4G LTE, the Droid Bionic is an all-powerful, unstoppable machine.” However, no details hint at a more specific release date, although recent FCC documents suggest the device is for sure on its way.

You could argue that Motorola still has some work to do to emerge the hole it dug itself while pushing back major version updates for its early Android devices time and time again, but it’s definitely improving — and it looks like a Blur-ified build of Gingerbread for the Droid X is already starting to leak. As you might recall, Moto’s 4.3-inch beast launched on Eclair before getting Froyo a few months later, so the fact that the company is seemingly preparing its second big update already is notable to say the least; it looks to be basically the same thing they’ve already shown on the Atrix, which is definitely a marked improvement from the Blur of old. No word on how the source got these shots, but we can only hope it means the over-the-air update isn’t too far off.

We can’t say we make a habit of checking out Fommy.com or Mobile City Online’s digital shelves when searching for our mobile gear, but these obscure retailers look to be the first to come out with pricing for the Atrix 4G’s HD Multimedia Dock. Fommy lists it as a straight up $59.95 charge, whereas its direct competitor is already discounting the cradle down to $49.99. Both are offering pre-orders only at this point, with no known dates of arrival, but at least we’ve got a ballpark figure to play with.

You can call it a Valentine’s sale or a pre-iPhone 4 blow out, but any way you slice it there’s some pretty good deals on Android phones available from Verizon right now. That includes the Samsung Fascinate and Continuum, as well as the HTC Droid Incredible and Motorola Droid R2-D2, which are all now available for just $100 on the usual two-year contract (the Fascinate deal is apparently today-only). Unfortunately, the sale doesn’t include the Droid X, Droid Pro or Droid 2 Global, but Verizon is promising some additional one-day only sales during its “ten days of sweet deals” from now until February 10th, so folks interested in one of those might not be out of luck just yet.

Something’s seriously going on over at Amazon’s Wireless store where the Droid Bionic, a Verizon sibling to AT&T’s Atrix 4G, has today been spotted listed for sale with a $149.99 price. That matches the levy Amazon asked for the Atrix last week (before promptly yanking the page) and seems to confirm that the $150 price point is receiving some sincere consideration for these 4G-equipped handsets. The Bionic’s page has now also disappeared into the ether, but the memory of its delectable promise remains.

Highlighting what made the device such a hit at CES, Motorola just released a promo video with full on uplifting soundtrack touting the unique capabilities of the Atrix 4G and the amazing possibilities to come. The video focuses on the Atrix 4G’s laptop and TV docks and demoes the user experience.

It’s a very impressive package and deserving of Motorola’s “World’s most powerful smartphone” title. The Atrix 4G is set to be the next big thing in the smartphone market and could highlight an upcoming trend for future smartphones.

Never would we have guessed that third-party wireless retailers would be aiming to launch AT&T’s powerhouse Atrix 4G for just $150 on contract — $200 or $250, sure, but not $150. Alas, just a few hours after AmazonWireless’ peep show, we’re seeing an alleged leaked screen shot of Costco’s inventory system showing the same blockbuster price. Now, bear in mind that AT&T itself will probably sell the phone for at least $50 more — third parties usually have a second ETF on top of the carrier’s that allows them to subsidize a little more heavily — but it’s a good sign regardless.
