Nikon D3100 DSLR goes official
Posted by MobiG @ 3:36 pm

The Nikon D3100 DSLR camera is a new entry-level DSLR from Nikon. The camera had its features surface in a couple early leaks and it sounded good. The D3100 went official this week and all the details have been offered up for those interested in the new camera.

Nikon D31001

As it turns out the details we heard in the previous leaks were accurate. The D3100 gets a 14.2MP image sensor and has an enhance Guidance Mode that teaches the new user about the settings of the camera. The camera is also the first DSLR anywhere to introduce full-time autofocus in live view and D-Movie mode.

That video is shot in 1080p resolution. The camera also has an 11-point auto focus system and has an ISO range that is expandable all the way up to 12,800. The LCD of the camera is a 3-inch unit and the 1080p video is recorded at 24 fps in H.264 AVCHD format. The camera will sell for $699.99 with an AF-S Nikkor 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR image stabilization lens.

Nikon Coolpix S1100pj projector camera unveiled
Posted by MobiG @ 2:14 pm

Nikon has pulled the cool new Coolpix S1100pj projector camera into the spotlight. The camera has an integrated projector that can throw those images and the video you record on the camera onto a wall or other surface for watching. The S1100pj is the second camera from Nikon with an integrated projector.

Compared to the original camera the S1100pj has 40% more brightness using a 14-lumen internal projector with a built-in stand and a touchscreen interface. One cool feature of the new camera is that it can connect to your PC via USB and project whatever is on your computer screen. That little feature will make the camera a hit with business types that have to give presentations.

Video recorded with the camera is in 720p resolution. The built-in projector is capable of throwing an image of up to 47-inches from over 7-feet away. The camera sensor has a resolution of 14.1-megapixels and a 5x optical zoom lens and the touchscreen on the back of the camera is 3-inches. The camera will ship in September for $349.95 in several colors.

Nikon D3100 DSLR Features Resurface, Significantly Upgraded From Previous Rumors
Posted by MobiG @ 12:14 am

Near the end of July, the features list for the upcoming Nikon D3100 DSLR supposedly leaked. And, truth be told, they were all pretty standard upgrades. Nothing all too mind boggling and what not. But, they were still upgrades. This time around, thanks to a German magazine that has apparently published new and improved specifications for the entry-level camera, we’re wondering which rumor is more accurate.

Nikon D3100 540x266

As we look back at the previous specs, we see that the camera supposedly features a 10MP CMOS sensor. Has 11 points of auto-focus, has the ability to shoot full 1080p HD videos, and Live View. However, nothing was mentioned about the ISO rating, which is the big takeaway from this latest “leak.”

Now, the new specs look almost exactly the same as the rumor back in July, but with some significant updates. Instead of that 10MP sensor, the D3100 will now feature a 14MP CMOS sensor. It will have a 3-inch display, Live View, 11-point AF, feature full 1080p HD video capture, and an ISO rating between 100 and 12,800. That ISO rating is pretty intense, especially for the whole “entry-level” aspect, and if it really is true, then we’re pretty excited for what’s to come out of Nikon’s labs. Now we just need one more big leak, and we’re sure Nikon will get right around to officially announcing the camera.

Nikon D3100 DSLR features surface
Posted by MobiG @ 2:35 pm

nikon sgIf you are in the market for a new DSLR camera and like the Nikon brand, you may want to wait a while before you buy. A new entry-level camera from Nikon is rumored to be coming soon called the D3100. The features are listed on Nikon Rumors and they look very good.

The key new feature for the camera will be a continuous auto focus mode while shooting video and in live view. That is an important feature for video shooting. The camera is expected to have 11 or 12 AF points and cover most of the range of the viewfinder.

The D3100 will have a new 10MP CMOS sensor. The video is expected to be recordable in 1080p at 24fps or 720p at 30 or 24 fps. Video editing features will be inside the camera. A kit will be offered with the camera body and an 18-55mm lens. The official announcement is expected in a few weeks.

Rumors of a replacement for Nikon’s D90 DSLR have been fuelled by reports that the company is requesting the return of retail demo units.  According to Nikon Rumors, employees at a major retailer are reporting that “all stores have been told to remove demo Nikon D90 bodies from display and send them back to head office,” while others claim the Nikon SB-600 flash is also up for replacement at Photokina 2010.

Details of the D90’s replacement are scant at present, though previous rumors pegged the upcoming DSLR as potentially supporting 39 autofocus points and having a 16-megapixel sensor.  It would also get 6400 ISO support and HI2, the ability to record 1080p 24fps HD video and compatibility with a new, optional MD-B11 grip.  Photokina 2010 kicks off in September this year.

Nikon “new concept” camera incoming tips president
Posted by MobiG @ 6:07 pm

nikon logoNikon’s camera plans are once again in the headlines, as company president Makoto Kimura reveals plans to launch a new model potentially as early as this financial year.  According to Bloomberg, the camera may have an “enhanced function” for recording video (and could, the news site suggest, also be mirrorless) being a “new concept” for Nikon in Kimura’s words.

The move would follow Panasonic and Sony’s launch of interchangeable-lens mirror-free cameras, and be part of Nikon’s push to drive sales of cameras with interchangeable lenses to 6.65 million units by March 2013, a rise of around 80-percent.  The new Nikon “could be [released] any time this fiscal year or the following year, as new models are starting to sell” he confirmed, though declined to be more specific about timescales or specifications.

New details on coming Nikon projector camera surface
Posted by MobiG @ 3:53 pm

nikon sg1
I mentioned last week that rumors were making rounds that Nikon was set to replace the S1000pj digital camera that features a projector built-in. DigiTimes has unearthed some new facts about the replacement projector camera.

The projector modules are said to be LCoS pico-projector modules from Himax Technologies. The projector cameras will be able to connect to PCs for use as an external projector as previously reported. Another camera using a DLP micro projector developed by TI and Asia Optical is also rumored to be shipping in September.

Asia Optical is also expecting to ship similar modules for other uses reports DigiTimes. Asia Optical expects to move 200,000 to 250,000 pico projector models for Microvision SHOWWX pico projectors this year. The company will also reportedly ship 8 million handset-use pico projectors using DLP tech in 2011 and expects to grow that number to 12 million in 2012.

nikon sgRumors are floating around that Nikon is set to release a new digital camera that packs a projector inside. The camera is said to be the replacement for the Coolpix S1000pj, which already sports a projector.

The new version of the camera will reportedly offer the option to be connected to a printer and used like a conventional projector. Rayqual Lens Adapters Give Sony NEX Cameras Options
Posted by MobiG @ 10:28 pm

Options never hurt. That’s why we’re happy to hear that the Sony NEX line of mirrorless cameras is going to get a few options for themselves here shortly. Thanks to Rayqual, a manufacturer out of Japan, the pair of cameras is primed and ready to get Leica, Nikon, and Canon lenses attached to their faces. Something as simple as a lens adapter is the catalyst, making it possible for us to take even better shots than we could before.

Rayqual Lens Adapters 540x183

Unfortunately, as great as all that is, you do lose one key feature: autofocus. You obviously get autofocus is you stick to the standard Sony lens, but the moment you pop on that adapter and shove, say, that Leica lens on, you’ll just have to deal without it.

As for pricing, you’re looking at spending between ¥19,950 and ¥25,200, depending on the lens adapter of your choice. That breaks down to between $220 and $275. You could be spending a lot more on a camera, sure, and if you like the body of the Sony NEX-3 or NEX-5, but you want a better lens, then this is probably a small price to pay to make that happen.
